Dedicate a space at home to switching off
When the gardens are open we dedicate a particular area as a ‘Silent Space’ every day in order to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.
In these unsettling times, we encourage you to find a space in your garden or in your home that feels peaceful and designate a time each day to enjoy a quiet moment of reflection.
Take a virtual walk around the gardens
Tremendous trees trail
Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild began creating his beautiful gardens upon a bare hill. Discover how he mixed exotic trees with British specimens to produce what we see today.
Sculpture trail
The gardens at Waddesdon are populated with sculptures. Discover more about the 18th-century statues and contemporary artworks that punctuate the grounds.
Pulham rock trail
Much of the rockwork in the gardens is actually artificial. Waddesdon has several artificial rock grottoes, a feature of late 19th-century gardens.
Engage your senses
We created a sensory trail at Waddesdon, and while you may not be able to visit at the moment, we hope you can use this map as inspiration to connect with nature wherever you may be.
If you have an outdoor space then why not find things to look closely at, touch, smell and listen quietly to. Or if you have a window with a view try spotting flowers in the breeze, listening to birdsong or smelling the spring air.

Bringing the outside in: the Conservatory at Waddesdon
The Archive holds many notes and letters relating to the gardens. These historic documents have inspired some of the planting schemes at Waddesdon today, including displays in the conservatory.
Harmony in the gardens
Gardens have long been places for calm reflection, and the geometric arrangement of the Parterre and Aviary garden at Waddesdon evoke the Islamic concept of the garden as ‘an earthly paradise’.
