Viognier, Pays d’Oc IGP£9.95 More info & buy This wine has a lovely nose of delicate white peach mingled with a defined floral character. The palate has rich stone fruit, alongside a subtle almond character whilst remaining clean and fresh. When young, this wine possesses a vibrant zesty floral character and becomes slightly more nutty and rounded with age. This particular range produces wines that are best consumed within a few years of vintage. All of the wines are matured in stainless steel which enables the retention of fresh juicy fruit without the presence of oak.
Syrah, Pays d’Oc IGP£9.95 More info & buy This wine is fairly powerful and rich, but well balanced and not overpowering. The abundance of dark fruit is accompanied by subtle black pepper. The finish is fresh and ripe. This particular wine is widely acknowledged as being the best red wine in this varietal range. The Baron Phillipe de Rothschild pays d'Oc varoetal range produces wines that are best consumed within a few years of vintage. All of the wines are matured in stainless steel which enables the retention of fresh juicy fruit without the presence of oak.
Sauvignon Blanc, Pays d’Oc IGP£9.95 More info & buy This Sauvignon displays the classic style we all know and love. The nose is fresh and direct, with citrus fruits, fresh cut lime, grapefruit and green peppers. The palate possesses fresh acidity and crisp citrus fruits, alongside melon and lychees. The finish is crisp and lengthy. This refreshing Sauvignon deserves a chicken salad, and some sunshine.
Gran Malbec 2013, Flechas de Los Andes, Argentina£23.95 More info & buy This is an inky and incredibly intense Malbec, characters which are evident on both the palate and nose. After aeration the nose reveals notes of blackberry liqueur, roasted coffee, vanilla, crushed flowers and minerals. The tannins are sweet yet fairly prominent, so it is advised that you give this wine an hour or two in a decanter and serve with a protein rich dish. The fruit on the palate is incredibly dense and concentrated with a tar-like edge. This is serious Malbec that demands your attention, and one that should grace the dinner table - certainly not the lunch table!
Borrago #47 Paloma Blend£19.95 More info & buy With no calories, no alcohol and no sugar you would be forgiven for expecting a bland non-descript drink. But thankfully you'd be very wrong indeed. Somehow, magic we suspect, Borrago delivers layers of spice, citrus and smoky peppery notes. You can enjoy this interesting drink without guilt and wake up the next day feeling fresh and without a fuzzy head. One small piece of advice, pour sparingly - 20cl for a glass is adequate such is the intensity of flavour. Bravo to the team at Borrago!
