Accessibility at Christmas

Winter is a magical time at Waddesdon. Here are a few visiting tips to help you get around during our Christmas opening. Accompanying Carers receive free entry.

For any additional support for your visit please email enquiries@waddesdon.org.uk.

On arrival

Car park – we have a free visitor car park with designated Blue Badge spaces and limited mobility bays (all on a first come basis).

Shuttle bus – there are ramps on all the buses for step-free access. Free tickets are available for Blue Badge holders and their carers. Tickets may be pre-booked with admission or on the day.

Pathway to the Manor – the lit pathway from the car park has a hard-surface, however it is steep in places so may not suitable for some pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Toilets – there are toilets, including an accessible toilet at the Welcome Pavilion, Manor and Stables. The Changing Places accessible toilet within the Manor is available for those who need it. Access via the Manor Shop.

Wheelchairs – available to borrow on a first come first served basis, these cannot be reserved.

Grounds

Steep paths – you’ll find steep and uneven paths on the way to the Stables. The boardwalk through the Woodland Playground and the path from the Powerhouse to the Stables are steep in places so may be unsuitable for some mobility requirements. We advise you use our shuttle bus from the North Fountain to the Stables. If possible bring a torch as some paths have limited lighting.

Shelter & outside seating – there is indoor seating located at the Powerhouse, covered seating near the Manor, around the light trail and at the Stables. There are also benches around the grounds.

Assistance dogs – are welcomed in the grounds, house, shops and on shuttle buses.

Light trails  – the light trail is almost all on flat and tarmac surfaces. There are some areas around the Parterre and Manor with loose gravel.

House

Entry to the House – there are ramps that enable entry at the main entrance and inside there is step-free access on the ground floor.

Bags – bags smaller than 35 x 45cm are welcome in the house. For security and conservation purposes, bags larger than 35 x 45cm as well as oversized rucksacks (those with a frame) and suitcases cannot be taken into the house and need to be left in the free bag store located in the blue Visitor Information building opposite the Manor Terrace.

Seating – there are chairs available to sit on in the House, just ask a member of staff.

Access between floors – access between floors is by a lift which is operated by a member of staff.

Floor surface & walkways – the floor surface inside the House is mainly carpets/rugs, with some wooden flooring. Please note some walkways through rooms are narrow, carry chairs and seat sticks are not permitted.

Wheelchairs – there are four wheelchairs available for use inside the house specifically. This can be arranged at the Main Entrance. All wheelchairs are on a first come basis and cannot be reserved.

Relaxed House Openings – this year we are offering Relaxed House Openings on Thursdays. Find out more here.

On your visit, if you need any assistance then please speak to a member of staff and they’ll be happy to help.
