Waddesdon and the First World War
Online talk Tue 25 May 2021
6pm
OnlineJoin Catherine Taylor, Head Archivist as she discusses the impact of the First World War on Waddesdon Manor, its staff and the Rothschild family.
In January 1914 Miss Alice de Rothschild wrote to her Head Gardener about preparations for the summer at Waddesdon, by the end of the year the country was at war and the impact on Waddesdon had already been seen.
In this talk, Catherine will explore the impact on staff at Waddesdon – on the way the gardens ran, what was planted, and the staff they had available. She will use images, accounts and letters from the archive to tell individual’s stories and look at the long term impact on Waddesdon.
A zoom link will be emailed to you 24 hours before the event.
