Mary Katrantzou, inspired by Waddesdon, in conversation
Tuesday 26 September, 6.30pm (doors open 6pm)
Spencer House, 27 St James’s Place, London SW1A 1NR
Join Emma Davidson as she talks to London designer Mary Katrantzou about the creative process behind her three couture dresses for Creatures & Creations, this season’s special exhibition at Waddesdon.
Inspired by Walter Rothschild’s spectacular collection of natural history and in collaboration with the Natural History Museum at Tring, London’s celebrated fashion designer, Mary Katrantzou has used her unique aesthetic of crafting ‘surrealism out of realism and possibility out of impossibility’ to transform nature into three spectacular designs for the exhibition.
Having undertaken a number of special projects and commissions, notably for ballet costumes, Mary Katrantzou will discuss with Emma Davidson how she found herself working with the team at Waddesdon for an exhibition focused on museum specimens, and how she has used her famous digital trompe l’oeil prints to explore the intricate detail of butterflies and feathers creating designs for both dresses and a product collection of plates, mugs, notebooks and scarves, her first foray into homewares.
