The notebook contains details of Miss Alice de Rothschilds instructions for plant and flower arrangements for the Summer season at Waddesdon, May to September 1906. Attributed to Miss Alice de Rothschild, it is mostly likely written by George Frederick Johnson, appointed Head Gardener in 1905, as the handwriting is very similar to that found on letters to Lyons and in the Head Gardeners' account books.
It gives detailed instructions for individual arrangements throughout the house. Proceeding room by room, it includes the vases to be used, the location and the height of the arrangements, the number of blooms to be used and the specific varieties to be included. In several places it is anotated that "this is not to be used again".
Other comments are included, such as
"White Gloxinias never to be used in this room or any other variety, being too delicate, in fact they are never to be used in the Mansion".
The book also contains a "List of Baskets for Luncheon and Dinner 1906-1907".
