Documents relating to the transfer of Leighton House to Miss Alice de Rothschild, the leasing of this property to Mr and Mrs J S Swire, the use of the house during the First World War and the subsequent conveyance of the property to Mr B A Brown.

1. Two Indenture documents between Baron Solomon Albert de Rothschild and Miss Alice Charlotte de Rothschild relating to the transfer of property, dated 1900 and 20th January 1902. Also three letters from Gadsden & Treherne to Messrs Horwood & James of Aylesbury.

2. Correspondence from Post Office Telegraphs relating to the erection of telegraph poles in the paddock adjacent to Leighton House, dated 8th April and 5th May 1904. 1 letter from Mrs Mary Swire to Messrs Horwood & James, dated 20th April 1904 on this subject.

3. A signed Indenture and Inventory document between Miss Alice de Rothschild and Mrs Mary Swire, dated 23rd July 1904. A draft lease document based on the document that had been used by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild.

A signed Agreement for Tenancy between Miss Alice de Rothschild and Mrs Mary Swire, dated 1st June 1909 (also one duplicate carbon copy).

Correspondence relating to the maintenance and upkeep of Leighton House, between Mrs Mary Swire, W F Taylor & Son, Architects & Surveyors of Aylesbury and Stafford, Rogers & A W Merry Ltd, Surveyors of Leighton Buzzard.

4. Letters concerning the use of Leighton House during the latter part of the First World War.

a. As a depot for the War Hospital Supplies between Miss L Bassett, President of War Hospital Supplies, Messrs Horwood & James, Solicitors of Alylesbury, Capt B Haines, War Department Valuer of Bedford, Stafford, Rogers and A W Merry Ltd, Valuers of Leighton Buzzard and Miss Alice de Rothschild.

b. As a convalescent hospital for discharged soldiers from Miss A Blewitt of Heath Manor House, Leighton to Mr Redhead of Messrs Horwood & James.

c. Letter to Mrs Charles de Rothschild from Clement J G Cooper of Leighton Buzzard requesting the use of the vegetable garden dated 11th May 1918. Letter annotated by Miss Alice de Rothschild.

5. Agreements and Conditions of Sale documents relating to the sale of Leighton House by Miss Alice de Rothschild, to Mr Benjamin Arthur Brown of Hutton in the County of Essex (Timber Merchant). Also a list of deeds and documents received by the purchasors solicitors Messrs Kerby Millett & Ayscough, 2 & 3 The Sanctuary, Westminster, S W 1. Letter from Miss Alice de Rothschild to Mr Redhead of Mesrs Horwood & James of Aylesbury.
