My dear Miss de Rothschild
Although the Queen telegraphed herself to you yesterday Her Majesty wishes me also to write and express to you more fully how sincerely she feels for you in the loss of your excellent brother who was always so kind and attentive. Her Majesty well remembers her visit to Waddesdon & wishes me to say that his Jubilee Gift to her last year will have an added interest in her eyes, remembering how kindly and thoughtfully he had specially had the places he thought she liked painted on those menu holders for Her Majesty. The Queen greatly fears that this terrible shock will affect your health.
When I think of how you shared his home and his interests I can’t bear to think of what it must be to you now.
Ever your affty
Harriet Phipps
