A typed extract from a letter by John Hayward, dated 25.02.1959. The extract gives two references to Alice:-

i) when Alice was showing Edward VII round Waddesdon and was asked by him whether the sunblinds could be raised so that he could see the pictures - Alice - replied: No; and who, a few minutes later, on seeing the monarch touching a fine bonheur du jour rapped out: 'Please Keep Your Hands Off The Furniture'

ii) it suggests that Alice 'had two gardeners constantly occupied in sponging the evergreen leaves within view of the house'.
