D-Day 1476: For Your Tomorrow
This autumn, experience the moving Standing with Giants D-Day 1476: For Your Tomorrow installation at Waddesdon Manor. Set against the landscape, 1,476 life-sized figures commemorate the lives lost under British command on D-Day, creating a powerful space for remembrance and reflection. New figures for 2026 bring even more individual stories to this poignant installation. The display is created in partnership with Standing With Giants, a community-based project which works to raise understanding and appreciation of our freedom and to remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives so we could live ours today.
New Figures For 2026
In this third year of display, new figures will be unveiled within the 1,476. These include Beach Masters, Dog Handlers, Royal Navy Officers, Tank Crew, Merchant Navy personnel and Royal Engineers.
Reflecting the broader story of the Normandy Campaign, 40 additional silhouettes representing British Commando Frogmen and personnel serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps will also be included.
Dawn Openings
As dawn breaks over the landscape, watch the sunrise illuminate the powerful silhouettes and enjoy a rare opportunity to explore the installation in the peace and stillness of the early morning. With the grounds quiet and the first light of day casting long shadows across the landscape, these special dawn openings offer a unique perspective on the installation and a chance for peaceful reflection before welcoming daytime visitors.
Sunday 8, Sunday 15, Sunday 22 and Sunday 29 November from 7.30am until 9am. Adults £15, Children £7.50
Twilight Openings
Arriving as the sun begins to set, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the installation in the fading light, when the silhouettes take on an even more powerful and atmospheric presence across the landscape. With exclusive access outside of normal opening hours, visitors can witness the changing light transform both the artwork and the natural landscape.
Each evening will include a special musical performance on the South Terrace.
Friday and Saturday evenings in November from 3.45pm until 7pm.

Remembrance Sunday & Armistice Day
On Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, we invite those attending to join us in an inclusive, live singing experience following the sounding of the Last Post at 11am, creating a shared moment of remembrance, reflection and connection through music.
On Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November Waddesdon Secondary School are invited to Waddesdon Manor to share a moment of collective reflection. Following the silence the students will place Poppies on the Parterre as a final act of gratitude and respect.
Standing with Giants Afternoon Tea
Step back in time and enjoy a 1940s-inspired Afternoon Tea in the historic surroundings of Waddesdon Manor, before taking time to explore the beautiful formal gardens and the poignant Standing with Giants installation.
Inspired by the spirit of wartime Britain, your Afternoon Tea features a carefully crafted selection of savoury favourites, freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, and traditional sweet treats, served with your choice of fine Canton teas or freshly prepared coffee.
Standing with Giants Lunch Reservation
Choose between a 2 or 3-course meal, and enjoy a seasonal lunch in the historic Manor Restaurant, when you visit during our Standing with Giants installation.
Following lunch, guests are welcome to visit the grounds and formal gardens of Waddesdon Manor, where they can explore the moving Standing with Giants installation.
1939-1945: A HOUSE INTERRUPTED
In September 1939, Waddesdon Manor was transformed for the arrival of 100 evacuee children from Croydon, making the House their home during one of the most uncertain periods in history.
Join us to discover how the Manor changed during the War years and see the House as you have never seen it before with its splendid rooms evoking the life of the children.
Dorothy de Rothschild will be your guide with her first-hand account of how the House and family adapted to wartime.
