Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I need to be to be a volunteer?
There are no age restrictions when it comes to volunteering. We have volunteers as young as 8 joining us for a family volunteering day in the Conservation Hub, 14-year-olds in the house telling engaging stories to our visitors, 19-year-olds gaining experience in our Stables Café, 40-year-olds during their work sabbatical, and 85-year-olds enjoying their time in the grounds directing visitors.
We welcome anyone from the age of 16 to apply for our advertised volunteering roles. If you are a little younger, please get in touch with us so we can advise you about the best volunteering opportunity.
How often do I need to volunteer?
Volunteering is flexible; you can give as little or as much time as you like. We will find a volunteering role that suits you and the time you would like to give. Get in touch for to find out more.
How long are the volunteering sessions?
Volunteering is flexible. You can give as little or as much time as you like. Most of our regular volunteering roles are available for half a day (3 to 4 hours) or for a full day (6 to 7 hours). Once you have completed your induction (around 4 to 5 sessions or full days), you can sign up for whenever you are available.
What will it cost to volunteer at Waddesdon?
As a volunteer you will not be paid, but we will ensure you don’t lose out financially by covering agreed out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel between your home and Waddesdon.
What roles do you offer?
We offer regular volunteering opportunities in one of our established teams. Think about engaging with our visitors in the house as one of our House Hosts, or as a gardener in the grounds.
We also offer flexible, one-off volunteering opportunities. Think about corporate volunteering days, family volunteering days, or the Big Help Out.
Young people looking for community volunteering, gaining experience, or volunteering for their DofE are encouraged to get in touch.
What do I need before I start volunteering?
We don’t ask for any specific skills or knowledge for our regular volunteering opportunities. We are interested in whether you are the right fit for us. Are you welcoming, friendly, and ready to gain new information and skills? Some of our roles require you to be fit and healthy, and some require you to be happy to volunteer in all weathers. Other roles might require you to enjoy teaching children or getting to know about the history of Waddesdon and the Rothschilds. Please have a look at the volunteering role description you are interested in and get in touch if you have any questions.
