All our sessions link directly to the national curriculum and are designed to spark curiosity, creativity and teamwork. Combining indoor and outdoor learning, they provide a fun, inspiring and memorable experience for every pupil. Please note that each session lasts three hours, with a maximum of 90 pupils, divided into groups of 30 on rotation.

Key Stage one

Explore stories, fairy tales and nature through role-play, creative activities and garden adventures.

Garden Explorers

Using ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as our starting point, this workshop includes a fun look at life cycles, making our own beanie baby, hunting for bugs, and building stick towers in our woodland nature trail. New! This workshop now has the option to add on a wellbeing session – Plant Yoga.

Fun with Fairy Tales

Explore Leon Bakst’s famous Sleeping Beauty paintings in our popular literacy-based workshop. Children will bring the story to life through role play in the turret room, explore the grounds and Aviary, and enjoy an afternoon creative writing session inspired by the morning’s activities. Dressing up is encouraged!

Key Stage Two

Discover myths, history, science and art, from Ancient Greece to the Second World War, or investigate jewels, trees and maps in our gardens and House.

Myths and Legends

Based on the myth of Heracles and his 12 Labours, pupils will explore Ancient Greek stories through our priceless art collection and investigate neoclassical sculpture in the gardens. In the afternoon, they will discover the world of Greek art.

Life during WWII: Life of an Evacuee

Pupils will follow in the footsteps of children evacuated to Waddesdon during WWII. Explore how the rooms were used by evacuees on a House tour, then visit the Aviary. In the afternoon, discover more about evacuee life through a range of hands-on activities.

Don’t Get Lost!

Spend the day learning more about maps and navigation, with pupils competing in teams around our special orienteering course. There will also be a chance to the create their maps for their peers to follow – who will win?

Who Lives in a House Like This?

Pupils will have a tour of the house, focusing on the hierarchy of Victorian Waddesdon – who did what and how did they do it? This workshop gives your pupils a chance to learn more about their local area and the history of the Rothschilds at Waddesdon.

Riches of the Earth

Pupils will explore the magnificent jewels in the Rothschild collection and discuss the role of rocks and minerals in everyday life. In the afternoon, they can compare different rocks, examine their properties, and create their own jewelled piece.

Tremendous Trees

Based entirely outside in our gardens, pupils will look at the life cycle of trees from seed to maturity, as well as completing fun maths-based activities.
