There's not a huge amount of that gamey earthy Pinot quality you get from mature Burgundy at present, this is currently all about smoky black fruit and bags of toasted spice. On the nose there's black cherry, smoky oak, toasted black pepper, hedgerow and redcurrant. The palate is juicy and full bodied with a generous core of red fruit and peppery spice. Drink now or cellar for five years. -

The palate unveils seductive aromas of black fruit with very well-integrated oak. This wine has great balance and an exceptional freshness. There's a restraint to the fruit that exudes sheer class. £19.95 Buy Honeysuckle, steely mineral notes, chalk, lime peel, lemon pith, orange blossom and herbaceous notes make up a brilliantly intriguing nose. The piercing aromatics that soar from the glass follow on to the palate leaving a lovely layered finish. There's a fantastic richness and texture, not quite mouth-filling, but certainly expansive and creamy. A wonderful Riesling that will only get better with age. -

Precise and densely concentrated with grippy tannins and a long earthy finish. After a few hours this wonderful wine reveals a glimpse of it's inner quality, but you can't help thinking its finer years lay ahead. -

There's fabulous intensity on the palate with layers of ripe smoky fruit and toasted spice. Supple tannins and low acidity give the wine a really approachable feel. Decant this wine for an hour and enjoy with a gutsy protein based dish. -

£68.00 Buy Opulent and alluring. This Pomerol is very 2019 stylistically with it's suave, juicy and generously textured fruit. It doesn't feel like a second wine, there's nothing thin about this wine. It feels luscious and dense yet approachable and open for business now. The nose kicks off with layers of black cherry, charred vanilla, cocoa, tobacco, spicy oak and blueberry coulis. The tannins feel ripe and there's an exotic element to the wine with fairly low acidity and super juicy fruit. A polished finish hints a cloves and cassis with touches of dark chocolate. Great stuff from DBR Lafite. -

£59.70 Buy Sourced from southern facing vineyards on the edge of Montpellier, this Syrah has a wonderful balance of ripeness and freshness. A two week fermentation on the skins has draw a wonderful robe of garnet-red with shimmering highlights. There's plenty of spice that adds depth to the core of ripe fruit; yet this spice doesn't dominate, it just hovers in the background and is happy to let the fruit take the lead role. Unlike some of wines produced in the south of France in 2020, this doesn't have excessive levels of alcohol. This is more about approachable elegant fruit with balance and poise. One of favourites' from the range. A cracking wine at less than £10.00. -

This superb Viognier shows great typicity with notes of honeysuckle, citrus peel, vanilla, tangerine and honey. Rather than being fermented, bottled and released in a frantic fashion; this Viognier is rested for 8 months on the lees which provides great depth and texture. This beautiful Chardonnay derives from the coolest vineyards in the Languedoc close to the border of étang de Thau. The freshness and energy of this Chardonnay is exceptional. The winemakers have introduced a very small amount of oak interaction, with 15% of the wine being aged in French oak; this helps to add texture and creaminess to the energetic core. Quince, honey, peach and ginger make up a pretty nose that is followed by an elegant rounded palate.
