Apaltagua Colección Limited Edition Carignan 2018, Maule Valley, Chile
£17.95 – £90.00
Selected for Waddesdon’s guest wines due to its quality, rarity and complexity. The Carignan vines, located in the Maule Valley, were planted as bush vines in the 1960s. Apaltagua have retained the traditional practices in the vineyard, including the use of horses throughout the estate. Carignan can have a tendency to produce large, underwhelming bunches but due to the vineyard practises and the age of the vines, they ensure the wine retains it’s depth whilst showcasing the full, unique characteristics of Carignan. Waddesdon has complete UK exclusivity on this wine.
Tasting notes
Deep and intense ruby in colour, this Carignan has a powerful nose of wild fruits including bramble, blackberry and cherry, as well as some undertones of flora and pepper. The oak contact is well integrated, offering notes of smoke, cocoa nib and cedar. The resulting wine is deep, fresh, aromatic and has amazing purity and persistence on the finish. This is an incredible wine, of which only a few thousand bottles are produced.
