  £20.00 – £108.00 Buy This wine has an attractive shimmering ruby colour. The nose is fairly pronounced and showy, which is unusual for Los Vascos. Initially there's fresh strawberry, blackberry, red cherry and violets. After thirty minutes of aeration spicy notes join the party with black pepper, bay leaf, cumin, tobacco and graphite. The palate is generous and rich with soft juicy tannins and a long lingering finish.

  Rupert & Rothschild Classique 2020, Stellenbosch, South Africa

  £22.00 – £118.80 Buy This is the first vintage to include Cabernet Franc in the blend, which lifts the texture making for a more elegant wine, although Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon still dominate the assemblage. This is Classique at it’s best and after 16 months in French oak and a few years in the bottle this vintage is singing! A complex and smoky nose starts off with roasted coffee, cassis, black cherry and earthy spice. The palate is medium to full bodied with seamless tannins and just enough acidity to retain freshness. There’s ripeness and richness on the palate, but it’s not overworked or overripe, it’s balanced and very well made. The wines of Rupert and Rothschild seem to get better with every passing vintage, and Classique certainly supports that theory.

  Flechas de Los Andes Gran Malbec 2019, Vista Flores, Argentina

  £25.95 – £140.10 Buy This is an inky and incredibly intense Malbec, characters which are evident on both the palate and nose. After aeration the nose reveals notes of blackberry liqueur, roasted coffee, vanilla, crushed flowers and minerals. The tannins are sweet yet fairly prominent, so it is advised that you give this wine an hour or two in a decanter and serve with a protein rich dish. The fruit on the palate is incredibly dense and concentrated. This is serious Malbec that demands your attention, and one that should grace the dinner table due to it's intensity and power.

  £30.50 – £164.70 Buy A deep ruby with shimmering highlights, this vintage looks the part in the glass. The nose doesn't need much coaxing, a gentle swirl lifts toasted vanilla, morello cherry, blackberry, liquorice, cedar, toast and pepper. This exotic, sexy St Emilion is open and expressive from the off. Despite the accessibility, you could certainly cellar for a few years. But why wait when its this good now?

  £45.00 – £243.00 Buy Developed and mature with notes of tobacco, cigar box, cedar, violets, blackberry, toast and cassis. The palate is much riper and richer than you may expect given the format. This is a juicy Medoc with layers of suave black fruit and earthy spice. Great stuff from DBR Lafite! A well priced magnum of claret from one of the very best producers, what's not to love about that?

  £95.00 Buy Medium deep colour. Lovely fragrant claret style wine with exuberant fresh red cherry redcurrant, mulberry cassis aromas and roasted walnut complexity. Well concentrated and generous with inky cassis mulberry fruits, smooth velvety tannins, attractive viscosity and richness on the mid-palate and fine integrated acidity. Finishes powdery firm with superb mineral length. A hugely evocative wine; true to the original blueprint, spirit of style and the classic Penfolds multi-regional template. Delicious to drink now but should age beautifully.

  Château des Laurets Baron 2016, A.C. Puisseguin-St-Emilion, France

  £60.00 – £324.00 Buy This is a big St Emilion with lashings of plump ripe fruit and oak derived spice.  Not quite a monster, but certainly a wine fit for a gusty supper rather than a light lunch! Made only in the best vintages this is made solely from Merlot. The nose is fantastic with notes of black cherry compote, toasted vanilla, dark chocolate, black forest gateau and cassis. The palate is generous in every department with oodles of black fruit and soft tannins. This beauty will age for a decade, yet after a couple of hours in a decanter it really shows well.

  £32.50 – £175.50 Buy The deep ruby with a shimmering robe gives you a slight inclination of quality. If the colour doesn't give it away the nose certainly does. It's deep broody and delicious. Cassis, violets, toast, blueberry coulee, dark chocolate, tobacco, sweet charred vanilla and plum jam. Light on it's feet yet full bodied and rich. This is very impressive indeed. Suave tannins and nimble acidity help taper the generous lashings of ripe black fruit. Complex and magnificently well made. Drink now or cellar for a decade.

  £33.50 – £180.90 Buy Plummy fruits meshed with cinnamon and almond. Medium-bodied with raspberry chocolate flavours with a sprinkling of spice and cola. Fleshy, and an rich texture with a bulbous/expansive palate profile. Gentle oak and no obtrusive flavours to speak of ... yet all the benefits of a calm maturation in seasoned hogsheads.  The acidity is in tune with the wine’s weight and structure. Great stuff!

  £28.00 – £151.20 Buy Mediterranean notes of savoury ratatouille, sundried tomato, olive tapenade, Moroccan spices and charcoal roasted roast game.  Balancing the savoury notes are aromatic blueberries, exotic red fruits, perfumed cranberry and fresh pomegranate. A delightfully complex amalgam of savoury green olives, pepperoni with a hint of sweet/salty Dutch liquorice. Soft blue fruits to the fore with textured tannins providing grip. An expansive palate gives this wine generosity and presence.

  Château Malmaison 2017, A.C. Moulis-Medoc, France

  £32.95 – £177.90 Buy Malmaison 2017 exhibits and deep ruby colour with a slight browning at the rim due to extended barrel maturation. The nose screams left bank Bordeaux; cassis, leather, cedar, brambly red fruit and toasted oak with menthol and cigar box. The palate is loaded with warm vintage fruit, supple tannins and great intensity. Great to drink now, but will evolve well in a cool cellar.
