Weinhof Waldschütz Anzenthal Riesling 2022, Kamptal, Austria
£28.00 – £151.20
The Waldschütz family has had a long love affair with the grapevine. Established in 1849, initially as grape farmers in Kamptal but since 1912 as winemakers. With this pedigree its easy to understand that their focus is on family, tradition and experience. The Wagram Reserve Anzenthal Riesling from the Waldschütz winery grows in the Anzenthal vineyard, located right at the ancient edge of the Wagram. Millions of years ago, the Danube flowed through the Wagram Valley, depositing Danube gravel, which eventually led to the formation of the characteristic loess soil found in Wagram. The vineyard is terraced and faces south. These ideal conditions—sunlight, the rich and nutrient-dense loess in the upper soil, and the sparse Danube gravel in the lower layers—combine to make this Riesling truly special: mineral-driven yet beautifully creamy and refined!
Tasting notes
A brilliant, rich yellow with golden highlights and a pronounced viscosity immediately catches the eye. After swirling the glass, a peach-like aroma rises to greet the nose. This fragrance, woven with exotic fruit notes and a delicate hint of acacia honey, captivates with its unmistakable charm. On the palate, the Riesling impresses with its balance, offering not only the peach flavours detected in the aroma but also a pleasant minerality, imparted by the Danube gravel. A smoothness, influenced by the loess soils of Wagram, gives this Riesling from the Waldschütz winery its unmistakable complexity and creamy finesse.
