Two Rivers Clos de Pierres Chardonnay 2019, Marlborough, New Zealand
£18.00 – £96.00
Two Rivers’ mission is to harness Marlborough’s intense fruit flavours, while producing elegant wines with purity and a sense of place. The grapes are grown on the clay soils of our high density planted, Brookby Hill Vineyard in the Southern Valleys sub region of Marlborough – Together with several key sites across Marlborough’s two main valleys. This is their 100% Chardonnay that has been grown in their Hawkesbridge & The Spring vineyards. Grapes were lightly pressed and the juice naturally fermented. The wine was then aged for 8 months in a mixture of French oak barriques and cuvees. Full malolactic fermentation occurred.
Tasting notes
Bright lemon in colour, the bouquet offers aromas of toasted almonds, ripe citrus, and a touch of sea spray. On the palate the wine is bright and focused, opening up to layers of stone fruit and lemon curd, over toasted oak and vanilla bean. The artisan winemaking approach has resulted in a classic and elegantly textured chardonnay, with beautiful balance, and a long, pure finish.

Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2020, South Australia
£30.00 – £162.00 Buy A burst of lemon blossom and white spring flowers is followed by lemon pith and other citrus enticement. Scents of cashew, pistachio-embedded nougat with a persistent citrus line framed by white stone fruit. Again, a lovely linearity evident all balanced by mouth-watering acidity with a subtle, nutty edge. Whist this acidity is quite pronounced the French oak underpins everything beautifully. This displays very clever winemaking and brings together the three sources of fruit incredibly well. -

Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Côte d’Or Blanc 2022, A.C. Bourgogne Côte d’Or, France
£27.00 – £145.80 Buy The Chardonnay fruit is the star of the show here. Quince, pineapple and hints of baked apple and lemon peel. There is oak here, but well judged and perfectly integrated with the rest of the fruit. This is a stunning expression that manages to retain that classic Burgundian style.
