Leo Alzinger Riesling Federspiel Dürnsteiner 2020, Wachau, Austria
£30.00 – £162.00
Alzinger is a cult winemaker, his entry level wines are very approachable but already quite impressive. This fine estate makes superlative single vineyard wines from premium mountain sites including Loibenberg, Steinertal, Hollerin and Liebenberg, with soil types including sandy loam and eroded primary rock. The estate totals about 10 hectares and production is very small at just 70,000 bottles per year. Grape varieties are 60% Grüner Veltliner, 40% Riesling. This wine is pressed from a large number of small vineyards at the foot of the Loibenberg. What they have in common is that they are still decisively shaped by the Loibenberg and its eroded weathered rock. However, there are also influences of sand and various sediments.
Tasting notes
The purity of those classic Riesling characteristic are here in full force, along with bags of minerality. Expect notes of lime juice, kumquat, lemon peel, garrigue and wet wool. The palate is fresh, full and fun!
