Kumeu Village Pinot Gris 2021, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
£15.00
Founded in 1944 near Auckland by Croatian immigrant Maté Brajkovich, it’s now run by his son Michael (New Zealand’s first Master of Wine) and siblings. They offer a warm, family welcome at the cellar door. Alongside Chardonnay, they’ve recently found success with Alsatian-style Pinot Gris. This is a family-driven operation focused on quality, not quantity. Made from sustainably grown Pinot Gris grapes that are hand-harvested and sorted in the Kumeu Vineyards then gently whole-bunch pressed. Fermented using local wild yeast with extended maturation on the yeast lees.

Tasting notes
This has an elegantly proportioned nose with softly presented but fresh fruit aromas of white and yellow stone fruits along with piquant yellow florals entwined with nutty and honeyed elements, and hints of minerals. The aromatics build in intensity with aeration. Dry and medium-bodied, the palate is harmoniously presented with gently layered ripe, white and yellow stone fruits entwined with yellow florals and honeyed nuances.
