Domaine Machard de Gramont ‘Le Chapitre’ 2022, A.C. Bourgogne, France
£30.00 – £162.00
This is one of only three Bourgogne Pinot Noirs that can attach the vineyard name to its label. It has now been given the go ahead to be re-classified to the appellation of Marsannay from the 2023 vintage, which is a shame as it’s sure to drive the price north. This is outstanding value for money – which is a rarity for Burgundian wines. Produced from 60 year old vines, this Pinot punches well above it’s weight and offers a wonderful fruit driven style.
Tasting notes
Bold and very 2022 in style. This is a modern Burgundy Pinot from a warm vintage. There’s not a huge amount of that gamey earthy Pinot quality you get from mature Burgundy at present, this is currently all about smoky black fruit and bags of toasted spice. On the nose there’s black cherry, smoky oak, toasted black pepper, hedgerow and redcurrant. The palate is juicy and rich with a generous core of red fruit and peppery spice. Drink now or cellar for eight years.

The wine continues with same pronounced intensity of fruit and spice as the nose with an elegant balance between fruit and acidity culminating in a long and lingering finish. Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir 2022, A.C. Bourgogne Côte d’Or, France
£27.00 – £145.80 Buy This starts on the nose under the guise of a classic Burgundy Pinot with notes of morello cherry, mushroom and redcurrants. After a few swirls expect a much more perfumed nose of violet and lavender. The palate has a density that you may not expect, all swept up by a backbone of acidity. This is serious Pinot!
