A two week fermentation on the skins has draw a wonderful robe of garnet-red with shimmering highlights. There's plenty of spice that adds depth to the core of ripe fruit; yet this spice doesn't dominate, it just hovers in the background and is happy to let the fruit take the lead role. Unlike some of wines produced in the south of France, this doesn't have excessive levels of alcohol. This is more about approachable elegant fruit with balance and poise. The palate is generous and rich with soft juicy tannins and a long lingering finish. -

This is Classique at it’s best and after 16 months in French oak and a few years in the bottle this vintage is singing! A complex and smoky nose starts off with roasted coffee, cassis, black cherry and earthy spice. The palate is medium to full bodied with seamless tannins and just enough acidity to retain freshness. There’s ripeness and richness on the palate, but it’s not overworked or overripe, it’s balanced and very well made. The wines of Rupert and Rothschild seem to get better with every passing vintage, and Classique certainly supports that theory. -

The fruit on the palate is incredibly dense and concentrated. This is serious Malbec that demands your attention, and one that should grace the dinner table due to it's intensity and power. -

After a few minutes there's cool blackberry coulis, warm slate, fresh tobacco, cedar, violets and graphite. The palate is compact and concentrated with fine tannins. You can feel the quality, but it is slightly reserved in the mid-palate. Whilst it offers very enjoyable drinking you can't help feel its best days lay ahead. It's no surprise then that this fruit-filled, punchy and utterly gorgeous Malbec delivers oodles of luscious black fruit and spice. The 2020 represent a return to form for Aruma with notes of violets, cassis and chocolate covered blueberry. Great stuff!
