Maison Roche de Bellene Saint-Aubin Premier Cru La Chateniere 2020, A.C. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru, France
£60.00 – £324.00
The city of Beaune, once called Bellene until the middle ages, is renowned for its Burgundian wines. Nicholas Potel personally chose this brand name in reference to this city, historically linked with wine and famous for its diversity of terroirs. It was founded in 2008 after establishing Domaine de Bellene. Potel has travelled the world in pursuit of learning as many techniques and skills as possible, so that he could, one day, apply them on his home turf. Saint-Aubin is always one of the most sought after wines in the region due to it’s fantastic quality of Chardonnay fruit, this is no exception.
Tasting notes
Saint-Aubin is always regarded as one of the finest appellations to grow world class Chardonnay. This premier cru vineyard, La Chateniere, offers some much needed restraint in such a warm vintage. Expect notes of apricot, peach, freshly picked apples as well as some buttered toast, hazelnuts and hints of oak. The palate is precise and exacting, with pinpoint freshness yet has some fun with the richness of the buttered orchard fruit that comes through.

Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2020, South Australia
£30.00 – £162.00 Buy A burst of lemon blossom and white spring flowers is followed by lemon pith and other citrus enticement. Scents of cashew, pistachio-embedded nougat with a persistent citrus line framed by white stone fruit. Again, a lovely linearity evident all balanced by mouth-watering acidity with a subtle, nutty edge. Whist this acidity is quite pronounced the French oak underpins everything beautifully. This displays very clever winemaking and brings together the three sources of fruit incredibly well. -

A d’Aussières Blanc 2021, IGP Pays d’Oc, France
£15.00 – £81.00 Buy Bright, very pale yellow colour tinged with green. Good range of aromas on the nose, with delicate notes of juicy white fruit and vine peaches. Ethereal balance on the palate, initially very lively the wine then develops volume. The finish is rich and lingers with intense notes of tropical fruit (mango and pineapple), underscored by a pleasant minerality. -

Maison Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Côte d’Or Blanc 2022, A.C. Bourgogne Côte d’Or, France
£27.00 – £145.80 Buy The Chardonnay fruit is the star of the show here. Quince, pineapple and hints of baked apple and lemon peel. There is oak here, but well judged and perfectly integrated with the rest of the fruit. This is a stunning expression that manages to retain that classic Burgundian style.
