Amancaya 2018 Magnum, Mendoza, Argentina (In Wooden Presentation Box)
£50.00 – £270.00
Amancaya, like its older brother, presents a harmonious balance between the Argentine and Bordeaux styles. The wine is more fruity due to the higher percentage of Malbec and shorter ageing. The word Amancaya is the native Indian name of a flower found at high altitudes in the Andes in the Mendoza area. We have been avid fans of Amancaya since it’s release nearly 20 years ago, and it’s safe to say that the 2018 vintage is one of the very best. There’s a depth, richness and almost broody aspect that you don’t usually find in a ‘2nd wine’. This magnum will provide pleasure for many years to come.
Tasting notes
The colour is a deep ruby with purple nuances. The nose is complex deep and broody with layered notes of cassis, cocoa, melted dark chocolate, salted caramel, figs with cinnamon, clove and bonfire.
The palate unveils seductive aromas of black fruit with very well-integrated oak. This wine has great balance and an exceptional freshness. There’s a restraint to the fruit that exudes sheer class. Well done DBR & Catena this is a really top notch wine.
