Rare, Unusual and Award Winning Case
£129.70More info & buy This case contains two limited edition wines from Apaltagua; a single vineyard Pinot Noir from the cool San Antonio Valley, and Carignan blend from 100 year old vines from the sun soaked Maule valley. Each of these wines are hand numbered, and total production doesn't exceed 6,000 bottles - which in wine terms is absolutely minute! Sticking with the limited edition theme, we can proudly introduce the rare Rioja Vega Tempranillo Bianco - this is a genetic mutation of the red skinned Tempranillo that offers an incredible nose of almond, toast, vanilla, cashew and buttery pears. There's also representation from the vastly underappreciated Timorasso grape, which offers a wonderful weighty palate with waxy stone fruit, lime zest and hazelnut, from Piedmont in Italy. Moving on to South Africa, we have the limited edition Integer Cabernet Sauvignon, of which only 6 barrels of this juicy, intense and smoky Cabernet are produced annually. It makes sense to finish with something classical, so conclude a fantastic day with a glass of Chateau d'Agassac 2000 - a wonderfully developed claret that boasts earthy cassis, cedar, truffles and forest floor. The a palate is elegant and the tannins fully resolved. for more detail please see the links below Apaltagua Colección Limited Edition Carignan 2015, Maule Valley, Chile Apaltagua Colección Limited Edition Pinot Noir 2013, San Antonio, Chile Rioja Vega Tempranillo Blanco 2015, D.O. Aguaribay Malbec 2016, Vista Flores Argentina£13.95 More info & buy The nose offers ripe blackberry with chocolate shavings and black pepper. The palate is rich and fruit forward with bags of creamy cassis, blackberry, spice, and black tea on the finish. This approachable style of Malbec shows very well straight from the bottle with supple tannins and a juicy core of fruit.
Gran Malbec 2013, Flechas de Los Andes, Argentina£19.95 More info & buy This is an inky and incredibly intense Malbec, characters which are evident on both the palate and nose. After aeration the nose reveals notes of blackberry liqueur, roasted coffee, vanilla, crushed flowers and minerals. The tannins are sweet yet fairly prominent, so it is advised that you give this wine an hour or two in a decanter and serve with a protein rich dish. The fruit on the palate is incredibly dense and concentrated with a tar-like edge. This is serious Malbec that demands your attention, and one that should grace the dinner table - certainly not the lunch table!
Aruma 2017, Mendoza, Argentina£13.95 More info & buy This vintage is full bodied and rich, which is typical of Argentinian Malbec. The yield for 2015 was much smaller than previous vintages, and thus lends bags of concentrated black fruit and subtle chocolate notes. The palate is soft and plump with black cherry and plum notes and a little pepper on the finish. There's no oak in sight, so the classic juicy style of warm climate Malbec can sing loud and proud.
