Waddesdon Orange Dark Chocolate
£3.95
This year we are delighted to announce that the Rothschild Foundation will price match all sales of our three Waddesdon Sleeping Beauty chocolate bars, with all proceeds going to Aylesbury Women’s Aid, our Charity of the Year.
Wrapped in a panel from Bakst’s paintings of Sleeping Beauty, commissioned in 1913 by the newly married James de Rothschild to decorate the drawing room of his London house.
Hand made for Waddesdon by an artisan chocolatier based in York.
Every bean used to create our chocolate has been responsibly and sustainably produced with a little extra paid for every kilo to help the reforest the Cocoa growing regions of Columbia. That way the farmers, their communities and the planet thrive.
Collection inspiration
The choice of subject was left to the artist, who completed the seven panels in 1922, delayed by ill health, other work and the First World War. In 1923 it was decided to hang the panels in the dining room, but it is not known whether they were ever installed. They were finally hung in the dining room of James and Dorothy’s next house, at 23 St James’ Place. They were installed in the Bakst Room at Waddesdon in 1995.
