‘R’ de Rieussec 2017, A.C. Bordeaux, France
£40.00 – £216.00
‘R’ de Rieussec is a dry white wine produced at the Grand Cru estate of Château Rieussec in the appellation of Sauternes, Bordeaux. ‘R’ de Rieussec was originally produced for consumption within the Rothschild family. However, the improving quality of this wine, coupled with fashion dictating a drier style meant that it was thankfully released for the open market. Global warming, and the capricious nature of noble rot (the fungus that creates the luscious wines of Sauternes) have forced producers in Sauternes to focus their attentions on the production of dry wines- and ‘R’ de Rieussec is one of the finest examples of this modern style.
Tasting notes
Beautiful pale yellow colour with youthful glints of green. The nose presents tremendous aromatic intensity. Exotic fruit, mango and pineapple predominate over the citrus notes that are more subdued for now. The oak from the barrel-ageing is well-integrated. The palate immediately presents superb freshness, resulting from a summer during which temperatures did not become excessively high. The wine has lots of volume but remains lively and ethereal thanks to its acidity. Flavours follow one another throughout the tasting, in particular fresh pear and notes of white flowers. Overall, the palate is characterized by length, balance and harmony, and a long aftertaste.

‘R’ de Rieussec 2019, A.C. Bordeaux, France
£40.00 – £216.00 Buy An almost equal blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon that provides a beautiful pale-yellow colour with youthful glints of green. The nose is reserved before aeration, but already offers a glimpse of a very fresh wine. After aeration, the Sauvignon aromas emerge first. They are classic with a hint of exoticism. Then come more flowery notes of Sémillon. The oak is very well-integrated. On the palate, the attack offers volume without being excessive, and reveals a pleasant, tight structure. This is an 'R' that will be remembered: simultaneously lively and delicate, with superb length! -

Le Merle Blanc de Château Clarke 2021, A.C. Bordeaux, France
£40.00 – £216.00 Buy One of our favourites! Le Merle Blanc kicks off with a touch of citrus peel and jasmine then leads to lemongrass and slightly richer creamier notes from the judicious oak interaction. The palate is clean and expressive with freshness and tension balanced by richness of fruit and a delicate toasty savoury note. This is very clever winemaking that brings together all the qualities you expect in a fine dry white wine. No need to cellar, serve this summer with shellfish and sunshine.
