Petit Vega Ribera del Duero Crianza 2020, D.O. Ribera del Duero, Spain
£22.00 – £118.80
Petit Vega from Ribera del Duero is a personal project by Isaac Fernández Montaño, who is one of the most renowned oenologists in Spain. He has been chief oenologist at several excellent wineries in Ribera del Duero gaining recognition as a brilliant producer. Petit Vega utilises Tempranillo grown on limestone soils with an elevation of close to 900m. The vines vary from 40 to 60 years of age and produce richly textured wines with a great depth and intensity. This spends 18 months resting in French and American barriques which adds structure and spice. This brilliant wine offers astonishing depth and richness and will age for a decade with ease.
Tasting notes
After a few minutes in the glass the nose opens up to reveal cassis, blueberry coulis, liquorice, violet, fresh tobacco, toast, melted dark chocolate, mocha and toast. This still feels youthful and fresh. An hour in the decanter brings out the best in the wine; The texture is mouth-coating and wonderfully rich with layers upon layers of sweet-edged fruit held together by a streak of spicy oak. Decant and serve with roast lamb or cellar for many years to come.
