Baron Edmond Les Granges 2016, A.C Haut Medoc, France
£25.00 – £135.00
Les Granges is a wine first developed in 1991 and uses fruit deriving from both Château Clarke and Château Malmaison, in the respective regions of Moulis and Listrac Medoc. The style tends to be delicate compared with the top wines of both Ch. Clarke and Ch. Malmaison. The idea here is to produce a wine that doesn’t require patience and a decade in the cellar. Instead, the aim is vibrancy, approachability and immediate charm. All three objectives have been achieved. On the nose this is very in-keeping with Bordeaux, and the 2016 vintage. There’s freshness, depth and precision.
Tasting notes
There’s a sense of precision about the purity of the nose that delivers cassis, blackberry, cedar, subtle toast and crunchy red fruit. The palate is rounded and supple with lovely red fruit and subtle oak. Decant just before serving and allow this crowd-pleasing claret to show of its wonderful red fruit and classic cedar-infused spice.
