Escudo Rojo Origine 2018, Maipo Valley, Chile
In the late 1990’s Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A, true to the pioneering spirit of their founder, Baron Philippe, decided to invest in viticulture in Chile. Baroness Philippine, the daughter of Baron Philippe, was impressed with the sheer potential of Chile’s terroir, and was fully invested in producing a range of quality and expressive wines that met her exacting standards. The first of these wines was Escudo Rojo, the Spanish translation of the German “Rote Schild” which means red coat of arms. By naming this wine after her, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild signs the Rothschild family’s anchorage in Chile. Escudo Origine is the latest release, and focuses purely on Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes
In the glass the wine is deep ruby, expressing notes of blackcurrant, cracked pepper, strawberries, smoke, vanilla and almond. On the palate the wine is punchy with concentrated yet refined silky tannins. The oak maturation adds depth and weight to the palate, whilst elevating the level of spice. Escudo Origine represents the finest offering Escudo Rojo produce and will develop nicely in the bottle for a good few years.
