Château Rieussec 2013, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes, France
£70.00 – £378.00
In 1984, Eric de Rothschild representing Domaines Barons de Rothschild (DBR) acquired Chateau Rieussec. At the time of the purchase the estate covered 110 ha, with 68ha under vine. DBR decided that a different approach must be adopted if this legendary property was to return to its glory days. Laborious and painstaking work was carried out in the vineyard including replanting and grubbing up of less than perfect vines. A new cellar was built in 1989 with a view to ensuring wines were matured more efficiently prior to release. The property now ranks among the very best in Sauternes and sits proudly in the Rothschild portfolio.
Tasting notes
This vintage is at a wonderful stage of maturity with freshness energy and complexity all coming together. On the nose you will find apricot, honeysuckle, fig and caramel with lime peel and marmalade. The palate has great texture and presence with invigorating acidity and a long layered finish. This superb 1er Grand Cru Sauternes is drinking brilliantly now, but will cellar for another few decades with ease.

‘R’ de Rieussec 2017, A.C. Bordeaux, France
£40.00 – £216.00 Buy Beautiful pale yellow colour with youthful glints of green. The nose presents tremendous aromatic intensity. Exotic fruit, mango and pineapple predominate over the citrus notes that are more subdued for now. The oak from the barrel-ageing is well-integrated. The palate immediately presents superb freshness, resulting from a summer during which temperatures did not become excessively high. The wine has lots of volume but remains lively and ethereal thanks to its acidity. Flavours follow one another throughout the tasting, in particular fresh pear and notes of white flowers. Overall, the palate is characterized by length, balance and harmony, and a long aftertaste. -

Carmes de Rieussec 2019, A.C. Sauternes, France
£40.00 – £216.00 Buy Beautiful sparkling gold colour. The nose is already surprisingly subtle. The barrel-ageing is still present but blends perfectly with notes of apricot and candied melon. The attack is light, but the wine then develops volume and gradually fills the entire palate. The wine has not been affected by the often excessively high summer temperatures. The finish is long and well-defined. -
