A swirling of the glass will reveal notes of toasted oak, spices and pencil lead delicately woven together. Assertive on the palate, this full-bodied wine shows great persistence and rich flavours. This wine will benefit from further cellaring, yet it shows well after a couple of hours in a decanter. -

Reserve Speciale Pauillac 2021, A.C. Pauillac, France
£45.00 – £243.00 Buy DBR Lafite have produced a rich yet precise Pauillac, similar in style to the 1990 vintage. Lafite rarely does exuberance, true to form the aroma needs coaxing from the glass. After a few minutes there's cool blackberry coulis, warm slate, fresh tobacco, cedar, violets and graphite. The palate is compact and concentrated with fine tannins. You can feel the quality, but it is slightly reserved in the mid-palate. Whilst it offers very enjoyable drinking you can't help feel its best days lay ahead. It is very 'Lafite' in style and typical of the vintage. -

Micro-oxygenation occurs in the barrel which enables the wine to reveal an array of mature spices; cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. The dense and rich wine has supple red fruit at its very core. Although this drinks well now after a few hours in a decanter, you can't help thinking it's best years lay ahead.
