The top-tier wine from Château Clarke, this is rich, concentrated and ripe. Awarded a “regional trophy medal”, “five gold stars” and “best left bank claret over £15.00” at Decanters World of Wine Awards in 2014. Chateau Clarke often needs a few years in the bottle to soften, and benefits from an extensive decanting period. The estate was acquired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1973, and Michel Rolland was appointed consultant in 1999.
Tasting notes
The nose is gorgeously rich with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, vanilla and cigar box. The palate is soft, and exquisitely supple, leading to a mature spice laden finish that oozes sheer class. The classic combination of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon provides classy redcurrant fruits, with good weight and intensity.
