Hot weather itinerary

As the weather gets hotter you can still enjoy your visit to Waddesdon, we have lots of shady spots in the gardens to sit, relax and enjoy a picnic, and things to do indoors if you fancy a break from the heat.

Miss Alice's drive

On the left as you leave the Summer House is the start of Miss Alice’s Drive, a lovely shady walk under the trees which takes you to the Stables. Finish your walk off with an ice cream from the Treaterie.

Baron's walk

Follow in the footsteps of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild on this route that takes you through woodland, past beautiful artworks and gives you dramatic views across the Vale of Aylesbury.

Silent space: switch off in the gardens

Our designated Silent Space, on the half-moon path, just beyond the Aviary garden is a beautiful place to sit on one of the benches under the shade of trees. Enjoy some quiet, off-line time and relax.

Woodland playground

Famiy with children playing on the swings in the Woodland Playground

Open 10am-5pm, Wed-Sun

A great place to shelter from the heat of the day where the trees provide a naturally cool canopy. Little ones can play safely at the bottom of the hill, and at the top our basket swing provides more gentle play. Older kids can whizz down our giant contour slide. Access included in your grounds ticket.

See our free summer exhibition by Michael Eden in the Coach House gallery. Using the collections as inspiration, and working with 3D scans, he has made unique digitally printed pieces that draw on historic objects.

Based at the former Stables shop with plenty of undercover seating. Indulge in waffles and crêpes freshly made in front of you, artisan ice cream, cakes and pastries. Which topping will you choose?

Visit the house

If you fancy doing something inside why not visit the house. Built over a century ago, the house and setting were created to delight and surprise the small circle of Baron Ferdinand’s friends. Please note: this is a historic building and therefore doesn’t have air-conditioning.

House timed tickets required, booking advised.

Wine Cellars

Kept at a constant temperature the wine cellars are great place to keep cool and out of the sun. They were created to celebrate the association of the Rothschild family with some of the finest wines in the world. Take advantage of our free cellars talks at 11.30am and 2pm each day.

powerhouse

The Powerhouse

The Powerhouse, opposite the Manor Shop courtyard, is another cool place to sit inside and take a shade break. With plenty of seating, and introductory films playing about the history of Waddesdon and Rothschild wines. Open 10am-5pm.

Bringing your dog

Dog walk

We welcome your furry friends in the grounds and if you decide to bring them along for your visit and the weather is warm, please be advised there is no shade on the walk from the car park to the main gardens. We do have shady areas within the grounds and plenty of water stations to keep them hydrated.
