Music at Windmill Hill: Steven Devine (harpsichord)
Sat 19 May 2018
Join us for some memorable musical concerts in the spectacular setting of Windmill Hill at Waddesdon.
Internationally acclaimed harpsichordist Steven Devine returns to Windmill Hill with a virtuosic programme titled ‘Bach and the Dance – an evening of harpsichord masterpieces’.
Johann Sebastian Bach is often portrayed as a pious, dour man of little fun and humour. Yet his music is based on the most joyous and life-affirming of art-forms; the dance.
In this programme, harpsichordist Steven Devine explores the use of dance forms, rhythms and national styles in the incredible body of music Bach composed for this instrument.
Bach’s Fifth French Suite and the ever-popular Italian Concerto frame this programme of dance-inspired music, also featuring other compositions by Bach and items from his personal library by Couperin, Frescobaldi and Telemann.
He will play a beautiful copy of an 18th century German harpsichord in the perfect acoustics of the Archive room at Waddesdon.
