Magical Materials in the House
Additional dates Tue 27 Dec and Mon 2 Jan (Closed 24-26 Dec)
A world of magical materials
Our theme this year is inspired by our extraordinary Collection, which features rare and exotic materials and humbler elements from earth and sea, made wonderful by skilled craftsmen who made them.
Each room and tree celebrates a material and their stories. Two trees in the East Gallery hold over a 1000 decorations. The tree in the White Drawing Room is over 15ft tall and decorated with 1000 lights and the Kitchen Corridor is adorned with over 400 meters of tinsel.
From the gleam of silver and gold to the sparkle of glass and the rich tones of wood and textiles and the mysterious surface of mother-of-pearl, each room has been specially decorated.
There is a crowd of Jolly Gingerbread Men hidden through the house for children to seek out. Pick up a copy of the trail in the house, and don’t forget to visit the giant gingerbread model of Waddesdon in the Coach House at the Stables, made by master bakers and icers, the Biscuiteers.
Please note: a limited number of rooms in the house are decorated for Christmas, while others are closed for conservation and cleaning.
