Mas Andes Merlot 2017 Six Bottle Case, Central valley Chile
Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A have been involved in viticulture in Chile since 1999 when Baroness Philippine launched Escudo Rojo in the Rapel Valley. Such was the success of Escudo Rojo that the exploration to neighbouring valleys in the search of new terroir seemed natural. Mas Andes, another very successful Chilean range from Baron Phillipe, expresses single varietal wines from across the Central Valley.
This is Chilean Merlot in its purest form: plump, rich, silky and guilty of possessing copious amounts of ripe black fruits. This vintage spent a short period of maturation in stainless steel vats, with the idea of preserving all the juicy fruit this warm valley of Chile has to provide. The nose hints at black cherry and bilberry, with layers of silky blackberry on the palate underpinned by ripe tannins. This is a definite crowd-pleaser!
