Las Huertas (Los Vascos) Grande Reserve 2015, three bottle case
The Las Huertas Grande Reserve label is produced for on-trade sales in the UK. Despite the label differing slightly visually, the wine is exactly the same as Los Vascos Grande Reserve. Waddesdon imports Los Vascos directly from the estate, therefore we thankfully have access to the Las Huertas range when stocks of the Los Vascos label run dry. Having stocked the 2015 Grande Reserve a few years back it is really exciting to see how it has evolved in the bottle – and evolved it certainly has! This Cabernet based blend was selected from old vines on the estate and has been matured in French oak. The parcel selection of old vines coupled with expert winemaking, have contributed to this fabulously complex vintage.
Many people who acquire Los Vascos Grande Reserve sadly do not get to experience it at full maturity. This is a rare chance to purchase an older vintage that is in a wonderful place, balancing maturity and freshness. Straight from the glass it shows a peppery earthy character then moves towards prunes and cocoa. After an hour in a decanter it is much more fruit driven with blackberry and black cherry, wrapped around tobacco, mint, leather and earthy spice. The palate is dry with fine tannins and an elegant medium bodied texture; the finish offers lots of spice and earthy maturity. This is a layered vintage that evolves beautifully over the course of the evening. Serve with a dish rich in protein.

On the nose there's an initial notes of blueberry coulis, leading to black cherry, pepper, black olive, smoked paprika and bay leaf. The palate is seamless and rich with a beautifully elegant structure and supple tannin. There's masses of black fruit and chocolate and truffles towards the finish. Los Vascos Le Dix 2015, Colchagua Valley, Chile£42.95 More info & buy The nose offers rich oak derived spice; vanilla and toast. After a few minutes in the glass a core of ripe and pure fruit takes shape. Think cool blueberry, ripe blackcurrant, and black cherry compote. Then there's a whiff of mint and liquorice. In the mouth its rich and coating with generous ripe fruit and plenty of spice - In fact the 2015 vintage of Los Vascos Le Dix feels altogether spicier and more complex than past vintages with peripheral aromas of saffron, nutmeg and cumin. This vintages shows well after an hour in the decanter - although further cellaring will benefit the wine.
