Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Alan Voegeli 2017, A.C. Gevrey Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin from Alain Voegeli, definitely flies under the radar of most Burgundian enthusiasts with less than 160 cases made annually. This offers great typicity and value for money, a really characterful Gevrey with lots of intensity and complexity. There’s a sense of terrior and definition that is not usually associated with this price point. Alan Voegeli took control of the estate in 1982 and pours his life and soul into his 2ha vineyard, allowing the wines to show great precision and concentration. Take a bow Alan, this is epic stuff!

Tasting notes

after a gentle swirl this beautifully complex nose offers up iron edged raspberry, blackberry, warm earth, slate, violets and truffle. Precise and densely concentrated with grippy tannins and a long earthy finish. After a few hours this wonderful wine reveals a glimpse of it’s inner quality, but you can’t help thinking its finer years lay ahead.
