Escudo Rojo Carmenere, Rapel Valley, Chile
Escudo Rojo, launched in 1999 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, is the result of an encounter between Chilean soil and Bordeaux expertise. The range now consists of seven wines and covers several valleys in the viticultural heaven that is Chile. Carmenère is a wonderfully distinct variety. This example is produced using fruit collected from the Rapel valley and is certainly a bold expression of Carmenère.

The nose screams smoky spice, coffee, roasted spice and ripe blackberry. The palate is rounded and densely concentrated. This wine has such a defined character that it guarantees to divide opinion, but for those who appreciate Carmenère this is a real treat!
