The nose is concentrated and pronounced with ripe black fruits, menthol, coffee and a touch of pepper from the Syrah. After aeration, notes of roasted hazelnut, black olive, mocha and a whiff of toasty oak appear, all of which are wrapped around this juicy core of black fruit. Escudo Rojo has been aged in oak barrels for 12 months, and that oak has fully absorbed into the wine providing lovely rich spice and structural support.
