Chan de Rosa, a winery based in Galicia, North West Spain, adopt a focus on traditional methods of Albariño winemaking. Their ethos is centred around small independent growers, with small parcel production that enables the true refection of Albariño . In some cases the vines they work with are approaching their 70th birthday. The maturity of these old vines, coupled with the cool oceanic breezes from the Atlantic, help to create a wonderful expression of Albariño .
Tasting notes
Purity, definition and varietal expression sits at the heart of Chan de Rosas’ stylistic approach. The Cuveé Clasico incorporates hand-harvest Albarino from Lino Sayar. The grapes are gentled rested in stainless steel and aged on the lees for three months. Unlike it’s counterpart, the Cuvee especial, the aim is verve, vitality and energy with no oak influence. The nose, after a gentle swirl in the glass lifts notes of citrus peel, apple skin, elderflower and honeysuckle. The palate is brimming with mineral-focused citrus fruit, zippy acidity and clean citrus notes. A pure expression of the fantastic Albarino grape!

The Cuveé Especial incorporates hand-harvest Albariño from Do Galpon & Alto Pazo. A small proportion of the wine (15%) is gentled rest in French oak barrels to aid texture, weight and complexity. This judicious approach to oak influence aims to support the natural expression of the grape, and allow its personality to shine. The nose brings together citrus peel, green apple, white peach and subtle vanilla notes. These notes follow on to the palate with a creamy texture and wonderful honeysuckle note on the finish. A great example of this characterful grape variety.
