The idea of forming a partnership between Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and the Catena family was born in 1999. Initial enthusiasm quickly became a concrete plan to produce a single wine that would combine French and Argentine cultures and the two signature grapes of each producer, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Catena family have an unrivalled knowledge of Malbec and the terroir of Mendoza, couple this with DBR Lafite’s exceptional knowledge of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, and it was clear to see that this partnership would yield magnificent wines. Only the very best selection grapes from both the ‘first zone’ and Uco Valley makes it to CARO; this is the finest offering from the Bodegas Caro project and ranks among the regions most-sought after wines.
Tasting notes
This wine has a dark, intense colour, with hints of violet. The nose reveals a complex mix of aromas including raspberry, black pepper, violets, cloves and subtle notes of dark chocolate. On the palate the wine is well-balanced with a refreshing acidity and ripe tannins that contribute to the harmony and smoothness of the palate. This wine will reveal its complexity with further bottle ageing. This is one of the first vintages of Caro to be predominantly Malbec based.

The nose is complex deep and broody with layered notes of cassis, cocoa, melted dark chocolate, salted caramel, figs with cinnamon, clove and bonfire. The palate unveils seductive aromas of black fruit with very well-integrated oak. This wine has great balance and an exceptional freshness. There's a restraint to the fruit that exudes sheer class.
