Baroness Nadine 2018, Western Cape South Africa (Three Bottle Case)
Baroness Nadine is the only white wine produced at Rupert and Rothschild Vignerons, in Simonsberg South Africa. The partnership was formed in 1997 and now produces three wines, all of which are complex yet contrasting in style. Baroness Nadine is a wonderfully rich and nutty Chardonnay that undergoes an intricate vinification process resulting in a complex wine. Baroness Nadine provides a creamy southern Burgundian style at just a fraction of the price compared to its French counterparts. This ever improving wine now ranks among the finest whites’ in the Rothschild portfolio.
Quite possibly the finest vintage of Nadine ever produced. Fresh citrus notes, roasted hazelnut, macadamia, charred vanilla, creamy orchard fruit and honeydew melon – a beautifully enticing and complex nose. This is a wonderful wine with a core of ripe fruit all held together by a luxurious yet judicious streak of rich oak. Baroness Nadine 2018 is crafted in a different style compared to a few years back – the style is much more in keeping with fashion, and subsequently the use of new French oak has been toned down. Nadine 2018 has a racy edge balanced beautifully against the buttery creaminess. Drink now or hold for five years.

Aile d’Argent 2013, A.C Bordeaux£135.00 Buy Aile d'Argent 2013 possesses a deep golden yellow with a wonderful nose of grilled pineapple, peach, citrus rind, lightly toasted hazelnut and sweet spice. On the palate the oak provides a richness of texture, almost creamy but with a nice nip of acidity. There's a grapefruit like freshness wrapped up with ripe stone fruit and a hint of minerality. This is fabulous, and will continue to improve for at least six years. The blend always consists of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, although in some vintages Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle will play a part. The wine spends its maturation period in new and old oak which provides a wonderful richness and complexity.
Baronne Charlotte 2016, AC Graves£20.95 Buy The fruit on the nose is toasty and pronounced with a clear mineral note, typical of the appellation. The palate manages to balance freshness of fruit, toasty oak and a mineral vibrancy. The finish is toasty and mineral focused, and right towards the end a spicy complexity appears. This vintage is elegant and offers fantastic immediate drinking.
‘R’ de Rieussec 2018, Bordeaux Blanc Sec£29.95 Buy An almost equal blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon provides a nose of grapefruit and lime peel, then after a few minutes the Sémillon takes the lead role boasting notes of white peach and toasty hazelnut. The palate is bone dry but has a wonderful ripeness of fruit and a creamy mouth filling texture. There's a hint of vanilla and oak spice on the finish which is beautifully balanced. 'R' de Rieussec is still only made in relatively small quantities and expresses the richness of Sauternes without the residual sugar.
