Baron’Arques 2009, A.C Limoux

Domaine Baron d’Arque was acquired in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. The estate is planted with what could seem like an unusual collection of varieties; Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc alongside Syrah, Grenache and Malbec. The wine offers good ageing potential and serves up power, intensity and complexity.

Tasting notes

This is a very intense vintage with an intoxicating nose of; cedar, blackcurrant, eucalyptus, coffee and dark chocolate. There’s plenty of body and weight but the palate is soft and smooth throughout. The fruit is still fairly primary, with lots of potential for the future; after a hour or so in the decanter, there’s a glimmer of what is to come. This vintage offers a less rustic and more polished style compared to past vintages. The blend is Merlot rich, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Malbec.
