Château L’Evangile

Château L’Evangile is situated in Pomerol, northeast of Bordeaux. The estate, formerly known as Fazilleau was founded by the Léglise family in the 18th century.

In 1990 Domaine Barons de Rothschild acquired the estate and was determined to honour the traditions and history of the estate. Improvements were made including the creation of the estate’s second wine, Blason.

The decade from 1995 – 2005 produced some staggeringly good wines which have now been surpassed by the modern day legends in 2009 and 2010 scoring perfect points from critics.

The Château spans 55 acres and shares its soil type with Petrus and Cheval Blanc, with the surface gravel governing the style of L’Evangile somewhat. 80% of the planting is made up of soft, plummy Merlot with the floral Cabernet Franc the remaining 20%.

The estate uses French oak barrels, hand harvesting and optical sorting to craft some of the most sought-after wines in Bordeaux, with only around 5,000 cases of Blason and Château L’Evangile produced each year.
