The calendars highlight royal weddings and victorious battles. They’re a unique collection in the UK and this is the first time some 30 examples will be on public display at Waddesdon.

Wine Cellars

The Wine Cellars were created in 1994 and built to celebrate the association of the Rothschild family with some of the finest wines in the world. Open every day and free with your grounds admission.

A day in the life of Waddesdon video

The house is now open after its winter sleep. The statues are starting to be uncovered, spring bulbs are beginning to show and our new exhibitions are on display.

Elephant Automaton

Musical elephant

The elephant automaton was one of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild’s most admired treasures. It was mentioned in a local newspaper report of 1889 describing the visit of the Shah of Persia, who asked to see the mechanism perform again and again.
